How are thymomas and other thymic tumors treated?

Our team is experienced in treating thymic cancer and will create a treatment plan based on the type and stage of your cancer and other factors.

Your treatment plan may include:

Surgery

Surgery is often the only treatment needed for tumors that haven’t spread beyond the thymus. Some tumors can be removed with minimally invasive robotic surgery, which often can be done as an outpatient procedure so that you do not have to stay overnight in the hospital.

Chemotherapy
Large, advanced or recurrent thymic tumors often require a combination of treatments, including chemotherapy and radiation.
Radiation therapy

Sometimes radiation therapy is recommended following surgery if tumors have spread beyond the thymus or chest. We may also recommend radiation therapy if surgery is not an option, or to help relieve symptoms if the disease has spread to other parts of the body.

Tumor Board
